Buccaneers Nominate WR Mike Evans for Walter Payton Man of the Year Award
Today, the Buccaneers announced that WR Mike Evans will be the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The Walter Payton Man of the Year Award is given out yearly to someone from one of 32 teams for their outstanding community service off of the field as well as their production on the field. Mike Evans and his wife Ashli started the Mike Evans Family Foundation three years ago. The goal of the foundation according to its website is to support, empower, encourage, and motivate today’s youth with an understanding that NO goal is unattainable.
Mike Evans does as much off of the field as he does on it. On top of being a receiver who has over 1,00 receiving yards a season, Evans provides for both the Tampa community and Galveston community. Earlier this year, Evans and the Mike Evans Family Foundation donated $100,000 to assist in relief efforts to help fight COVID-19.
The NFL will give all 32 nominees a $40,000 donation in their name to a charity of their choosing. Fans can help contribute towards awarding a winner this season by using #WPMOYChallenge followed by the players last name on twitter. The winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award will be announced at the NFL Honors awards special during Super Bowl LV weekend. Congratulations on the nomination Mike and keep on being the selfless man that you are.
