Buccaneers Sign Veteran Kicker

Published by Cory Hays on

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Buccaneers have officially signed veteran kicker Ryan Succop to a deal. The deal is for one-year at the league minimum $1.05M with no bonus. As a result, the Buccaneers have released kicker Elliott Fry.

It looks like the team is really putting the pressure on second-year kicker Matt Gay now. With less than a week until final roster cuts, Gay will be competing against an eleven-year NFL veteran to keep his job.

In his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans, Succop has attempted 287 field goals and made 236 of them resulting in a success rate of 82.2%. In his rookie season, Matt Gay attempted 35 field goals and made 27 of them resulting in a success rate of 77.14%. It will be very interesting to see where the competition ends up and who takes the field week one as the Buccaneers kicker between Gay and Succop.
