Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians on Plans for John Franklin III

Published by Cory Hays on

Last season, the Buccaneers signed John Franklin III to their practice squad and brought him up to the 53 man roster for the season finale against the Atlanta Falcons. Franklin III had one rush for 11 yards in the Wildcat formation. Bruce Arians seems to be a fan of Franklin III and his athletic ability. Below is what Arians had to say about John Franklin III:

“Yeah, he’s a very interesting athlete, even though he had never played defense. He’s one of those guys that he’s got so much talent and athletic ability, you’re trying to find a place for him. We ran that little Wildcat package with him, and he did a great job with it. He can throw [and] he’s coming in as a wide receiver, so he’ll be in the offensive rooms. He could possibly give us a third quarterback on Sunday with his ability, so he’s got a lot of options, and it’s up to him to make the ball club as a wideout.”

It sounds like Bruce Arians is a fan of Franklin III but wants him to earn a spot as a receiver as well. Franklin III is best known for his role on Last Chance U on Netflix. He’s the perfect athlete that you want on your team to utilize at multiple positions so Arians is right. Franklin III is getting his shot with the Buccaneers and hopefully he takes advantage of it.
