Four Buccaneers Rank in Top 40 on NFL Top 100 List
Last night, the NFL Top 100 list countdown continued as voted on by players and coaches. Four Buccaneers were selected inside of the top 40 excluding Lavonte David who was already ranked as the 100th best player in the league. The four players were WR Chris Godwin, LB Shaquil Barrett, WR Mike Evans, and QB Tom Brady. Godwin came in at number 38, Barrett came in at number 32, Evans came in at number 30, and Brady came in at number 14. This is a change from previous years as the Buccaneers do not generally get recognized across the league.
Godwin had a breakout season in 2019 finishing with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns before an injury ended his season and his peers noticed his on field play. Barrett finished 2019 as the sack leader with 19.5 sacks which resulted in him signing the franchise tag this offseason. Evans is always regarded as one of the top five receivers in the league and also had his season ended by injury but not before racking up 67 receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. Last but not least the man known as the G.O.A.T. Tom Brady. Brady departed New England after 20 seasons for Tampa this offseason. Tom Brady finished last season with 4,057 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
It’s great that the players peers and coaches are starting to take notice of the talent in Tampa. Hopefully, the talent can all come together this year and end the 12 year playoff drought in a season that is going to look completely different due to COVID-19.
