Buccaneers To Face Tampering Charges?
Last Saturday, newly acquired Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski said during a draft party with ESPN’s Sage Steele that he had the team playbook for four weeks. The Buccaneers didn’t trade for the TE until April 21st. This statement raised some eyebrows especially after Buccaneers QB Tom Brady was investigated for potentially violating league offseason rules by visiting Byron Leftwich to pick up his playbook last month.
NBC Sports’ Mike Florio raised the question yesterday wondering if the Buccaneers could potentially be looked at for tampering with the TE before officially acquiring him from the New England Patriots. Gronkowski posted a statement and picture on social media Wednesday reading the following: “This is seriously a story? Lol! I was just joking around with Sage as I was pretty much the whole time that night when I was co-hosting the show. Wowsers, my co-hosting skills on point!! Lol!! I actually just received my team-issued Surface today from the Bucs and it’s still in the package, and hoping it is all pictures and drawings. I’m pumped to open it one day hopefully soon and follow the arrows to learn where to run to. Gronk run Gronk catch ball. No playbook needed. Hehe.”
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are finally in the national spotlight once again for the first time since the Super Bowl era and it hasn’t come without “controversy”. Hopefully, the NFL realizes that it was just a joke and the Buccaneers can begin to prepare for the 2020-21 season without any hiccups or punishments.
