Buccaneers Select Tristan Wirfs in the First Round of the 2020 NFL Draft

Published by Cory Hays on

Last night, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the number 14 pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Tampa Bay would not stay at 14 though. The Buccaneers moved up one spot by trading picks number 14 and 117 with the San Francisco 49ers for pick 13 and the 49ers last seventh round pick to select Iowa Offensive Tackle Tristan Wirfs. Rumor has it that a team presumably the Miami Dolphins were hot on the 49ers trail to trade up to 13 for Wirfs and the Buccaneers had to make the move to get their guy. This is the first time since Kenyatta Walker in 2001 that the Buccaneers have drafted an Offensive Tackle in the first round.

Wirfs was regarded as either the number one or number two Offensive Tackle available in the draft and the Buccaneers needed a solid blocker for QB Tom Brady. New Buccaneers OT Tristan Wirfs stands six feet five inches tall, weighs 320 pounds, has 34 inch arms, and ran a 4.85 40 yard dash. Wirfs is very athletic and will be a great addition to solidify the trenches along with Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet, Ryan Jensen, and Alex Cappa.
