Buccaneers GM Jason Licht’s Best Pick Overall and Best Value Pick

Published by Cory Hays on

In an article on NFL.com, Charley Casserly gives all 32 teams General Manager best picks, top value picks, and draft tendencies. The article states that Buccaneers WR Mike Evans was Jason Licht’s best draft pick in his first season as General Manager in 2014. In his six seasons in the NFL, Evans has logged over 1,000 yards in each of them and is known as one of the top Wide Receivers in the league.

Casserly says Licht’s best value pick was 49ers LB Kwon Alexander with pick 124 overall in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Alexander was a good piece of a shaky Buccaneers Defense for four seasons before heading to San Francisco last off-season on a four-year, $54 million deal and was replaced in Tampa by LB Devin White. In his four seasons in Tampa, Alexander tallied 380 tackles, 6 forced fumbles, and 6 interceptions.

In my opinion, the best value pick that Licht has made in Tampa has to be WR Chris Godwin. Coming out of Penn State, Godwin fell to pick 84 in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Last season, Godwin logged 1,333 yards and 9 touchdowns in 14 games. Those stats made him the 3rd best WR in terms of yardage in the NFL and teammate Mike Evans was 13th in the league with 1,157 yards in 13 games played. Godwin seems to be in position to become a top five WR in the NFL if he isn’t already which makes him being drafted in the third round a steal.
