Devin White and Sean Murphy-Bunting Named to All-Rookie Team
Today, the Pro Football Writers of America’s (PFWA) released their NFL All-Rookie team. Buccaneers first round pick LB Devin White and second round pick CB Sean Murphy-Bunting were among the 28 rookies selected to the team. White and Murphy-Bunting are the first Buccaneer rookies to be selected since CB Vernon Hargreaves III in 2016.
In 13 games this season, Devin White tallied 91 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. White returned two fumbles for a touchdown this season in the games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons. The two fumble recoveries for touchdowns were the most by a rookie since at least 1970.
In 10 games started this season, Sean Murphy-Bunting tallied 43 tackles, one sack, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and eight passes defensed. Murphy-Bunting returned one interception for a touchdown in his return home to Michigan against the Detroit Lions. Sean Murphy-Bunting’s three interceptions also tied for the most by a rookie with Kansas City’s Juan Thornhill.
White and Murphy-Bunting both lived up to their draft positions after slow starts due to injury and little playing time. The Defense of the future seems to be in good hands with these two at the forefront of it all.
