Bucs vs Panthers Week 2 TNF Studs and Duds
Last night, the Buccaneers ended a bunch of active streaks on Thursday Night Football against the Panthers. Jameis 12 game road losing streak was snapped, Bucs five game losing streak, and Bucs five game Thursday Night Football losing streak was snapped. Below are the studs and duds from the game.
Shaq Barrett: Barrett brought the pressure early and often and got to Cam Newton for three sacks on the night. Those three sacks came in the same quarter. Barrett finished with three sacks and four QB hits.
Chris Godwin: Godwin is looking like a WR1 in the NFL. He had himself another solid outing with 8 receptions for 121 yards and 1 TD. Godwin has caught the only two TD passes thrown by Jameis Winston this season so far.
Peyton Barber: Barber came out like he was hungry to beat the Panthers. He was running like a man on a mission. Barber finished with 23 carries for 82 yards and 1 TD along with 1 reception for 7 yards.
Vernon Hargreaves III: Hargreaves III led the Buccaneers in tackles with 12. Although he got beat in coverage a few times, he played a solid game. Vernon made the game winning tackle on Christian McCaffrey at the two yard line on fourth and inches.
Jameis Winston: After being written off by the media and some of the fan base, Winston came out and had a solid showing. Winston’s stat line was 16/25 for 208 yards, 1 TD and yes 0 INT. He could’ve had 2 INT if Breshad Perriman hadn’t dropped a perfect pass in the back of the end zone. Jameis bounced back and will look to continue this trend against the Giants next week.
O.J. Howard: what has happened to O.J. Howard? The first two weeks of the season haven’t been pretty for the third year TE. He did not have a reception in this game and was beaten on some blocks and received two penalties including one for offensive pass interference but that was a call that didn’t look good for the referees. Hopefully O.J. can bounce back Week 3 against New York.
Donovan Smith: Smith kicked off the game on the first drive with a penalty for holding. He was flagged twice and beaten off the block a few times. Smith was paid big starting LT money and he has to clean up the penalties and protecting the blindside of Jameis Winston.
Breshad Perriman: Perriman hasn’t looked that good as a Buccaneer so far. Breshad was targeted four times in this game and didn’t catch any of them including a potential TD in the back of the end zone thrown by Jameis Winston.
