Bucs vs Panthers Thursday Night Football In Stadium Recap
Last night, the Buccaneers went into Bank of America Stadium on Thursday Night Football and beat the Panthers 20-14. This game was a huge game as it was the first divisional game and in primetime. Lots of positives came out of this. Lets get into the in stadium perspective on the game.
The Buccaneers came out with a fire that they needed to have pregame. A quick turnaround after a disappointing loss to the 49ers at home in Week 1. The team was focused and determined to leave Charlotte with a win. It was all business and no play.
The Panther fans were loud and proud ready to “blow out” a horrible Tampa Bay team. That did not end up actually happening. More often than not, the Panther fans were booing Cam Newton and the Panthers. Fans were getting so frustrated that a Buccaneers Defense was shutting down their “elite” QB. Elite is a reach for Cam just because he won MVP and went to the Super Bowl.
The Offense played a much better game than last week at Raymond James Stadium. Peyton Barber was the premiere back this week in the second half and took advantage of this opportunity with a TD and 82 yards rushing. Jameis Winston looked calm and composed throwing 1 TD to Chris Godwin and passing for 204 yards. Big things was zero turnovers from Jameis. Fans were calling for his head last week and the Bucs fans in Carolina were cheering him loud and proud last night. OJ Howard seems to have disappeared after making multiple mistakes in the first two games. Mike Evans had a better game than last week including a 41 yard catch on a dime pass deep ball from Jameis. The Offensive Line looked solid with the exception of a few penalties by Demar Dotson and Donovan Smith. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the Offense finally grasping the new scheme but Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich still has to manage play calling better.
The Defense played lights out. They were flying all over the field and could’ve had multiple interceptions in the game if they learned how to catch. The pressure was in Cam’s face all night long and it was rattling him. Shaq Barrett and company were on a mission to right the loss from the previous week. They did just did. Carolina only converted 3 out of 14 third down conversions. The Panthers also went 0 for 3 on fourth down. This Defense sealed the deal on fourth and inches at the two yard line when Vernon Hargreaves III tackled Christian McCaffrey short of the sticks. McCaffrey was held to 37 yards rushing and 16 yards receiving after going off for over 200 yards of Offense last week against the Rams. This was a HUGE W for the Bucs and its only going to get better from here.
