The Good and Bad: Bucs vs Browns

Published by Cory Hays on

Last night, the Buccaneers defeated the Browns 13-12 on a FG by K Matt Gay. This was a game full of ups and downs. Here are the good and bad from the 3rd preseason game of the year.

The good:

Bucs Defense- The Defense under Todd Bowles has looked great so far this preseason. The first team Defense held Baker Mayfield to 10/26 for 72 yards and 1 INT in the half he played. The Defense held the Browns Offense to 3 FGs after the Browns continued to get great starting field position.

Ryan Griffin- RG4 continues to come in and impress as the Buccaneers 3rd string QB. Griffin went 11/17 for 121 yards and 1 TD. It looks like Griffin is going to be the Bucs 2nd string QB going into the season after QB Blaine Gabbert injured his shoulder on a scramble.

Tanner Hudson- Tanner Hudson continues to shine whenever he gets the ball thrown his way. Hudson caught 4 passes for 49 yards including a one handed snag. He should make the team as the 3rd TE.

Chris Godwin- Godwin seemed to have a nice connection with QB Jameis Winston in this game as Mike Evans was held out due to injury. Godwin caught 4 passes for 52 yards and looked very smooth doing it. He’s going to be a sleeper this season for Tampa.

The bad:

Buccaneers Offensive Line- The Offensive Line looked horrendous. The first team O Line surrendered 5 sacks to the Browns first team Defense. It seemed like Alex Cappa, Donovan Smith, and Demar Dotson looked lost out there. QB Jameis Winston had to run for his life whenever he had any time to throw. This is something that needs to be addressed before Week 1 against San Francisco.

Penalties- The Buccaneers continue to commit stupid penalties. In this game, the Bucs committed 9 penalties resulting in 76 yards for the Browns and multiple first downs. Bruce Arians isn’t going to let this slide for long.

Matt Gay- K Matt Gay has been crowned the kicker for the Bucs by the fans. Unfortunately, he missed a short FG in this game off of the right upright. He missed a 37 yard FG but ended up making the game winning 21 yard FG. Hopefully, short FGs are not an issue for Gay.
