WR Coach Kevin Garver on How Impressed He Is With Spencer Schnell
On Monday, Buccaneers assistant coaches were made available to speak to the media. Here is what WR Coach Kevin Garver had to say about rookie WR Spencer Schnell via Buccaneers.com:
“It’s kind of funny because I was telling Coach El (Antwaan Randle El) after the game, he came here as a tryout guy. Really the reason why he made the team is he was just snagging the ball – he was catching the ball so well. I think it was a little bit frustrating for ‘Snell’ (Spencer Schnell). His reps go down and you maybe haven’t seen him do as many things as he has been able to do, so I was really proud of what he has done. I haven’t seen it as much in practice, but at the end of the day it matters what you do in the game. You prove to everyone that you can get it done.”
It’s going to be a battle in that WR room for the final few WR spots on the roster. The locks right now are Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Breshad Perriman. There could potentially be 2 or 3 more spots available as a WR and special teams player. Spencer Schnell is making a great case to make the roster after going off for 119 yards in the game against Pittsburgh. It’s great to see stories like this where the player comes in as a tryout player and potentially make the 53 man roster. This is a story that we’re watching to see play out the rest of preseason.
