Deone Bucannon and Carl Nassib Get Only Sacks in Bucs Preseason Game

Published by Miles Fuca on

Deone Bucannon and Carl Nassib tallied up the Buccaneers lone two sacks Friday night. Bucannon a pick up from the offseason to play “money linebacker” and Nassib who played phenomenal at the end of last years season (debatably the best player on the defense). As great as that all sounds, the problem is that there were only two sacks and one wasn’t even from a pass rusher. Is this something to be worried about?

Yes and no. It’s the first football game this team has played in a long time and there were jitters. But there was a lot of hype revolving around Noah Spence and Shaquil Barrett. Again, I know it’s the preseason and they didn’t play the whole game, but still. The pass rush needs to be there to set the tone.

Depth is an obvious issue. Without one of the starters on defense, there’s a gaping hole in that spot. The Vita Vea worries just proves that. Vea went down and there was no one near his caliber to fill his shoes on this current roster. And it’s like that for the defensive backs as well.

All in all, we need to see more from this defense in the preseason. Especially from the second and third stringers. If we see this same lack of production in week 4 of the preseason, I will be a tad bit concerned. The offense won’t be able to carry this defense on their back week after week.
