Jameis Winston vs Steelers Analysis

Published by Cory Hays on

Yesterday, the Bucs played their first preseason game of the year in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Bucs fans and the world had their eye on Jameis Winston as they wanted to see how he was going to look under Head Coach Bruce Arians. Winston didn’t disappoint fans but he would go on to disappoint his haters.

Jameis was sharp in the only series that he played of the game which resulted in a TD. This drive consisted of 12 plays going for 81 yards. Jameis’ first pass went for 11 yards to Breshad Perriman. The following play, Jameis dumped it off to Peyton Barber for 4 yards. Jameis’ only incompletion came on a deep ball to Breshad Perriman which if Perriman got the step on the defender then it would’ve resulted in a TD. Winston then threw to Godwin for 11 yards and threw a screen to Ronald Jones for 5 yards.

Jameis then eluded a would be sack and used his mobility to run for 10 yards which really was over 20 yards from where he began running.

The drive was capped off with a 9 yard pass to Chris Godwin for a TD.

Winston ended up 5/6 for 40 yards and 1 TD with a QB Rating of 134.0. The run game looked stellar around Jameis this drive so they complimented each other and it allowed Jameis to thrive.

Jameis looks like he’s really been working hard on his decision making and not forcing throws which is something he has been criticized on for years. The dump offs to the RB if nothing is there deep is something we haven’t seen from him much so Arians and Leftwich are taking a negative and making it a positive. Jameis likes to try and be Superman at times but if this first preseason game is any indication, it looks we’re about to get a Jameis Winston MVP type of season.
