Bruce Arians Speaks on Offensive Line
Head Coach Bruce Arians was asked about how he feels about the Offensive Line depth in Training Camp. Here are some things Arians had to say about the Offensive Line via Buccaneers.com:
On Offensive Line Depth: “I’m anxious to see them play against somebody else – protecting the quarterback, running the ball – we’ve got to develop some more younger tackles. There will be a lot of competition going forward in these preseason games.”
On Earl Watford’s Versatility to play all 5 Offensive Line positions: “Just injuries – with Caleb [Benenoch] down and Dot (Demar Dotson) having the day off – that’s his forte, he can play everything.”
It looks like Arians is anxious to see how the Offensive Line will look against other competition besides their teammates. A lot of fans were skeptical about the Buccaneers not addressing the Offensive Line during the draft and free agency. The four preseason games will give everyone a preview of how well or bad the unit will be together. A standout from the line currently is RG Alex Cappa who has been described as outstanding by QB Jameis Winston as well. This is encouraging to hear as there were reports that Cappa was behind in development. Cappa didn’t get to see the field much in 2018 due to injury. The right side of the Offensive Line was a weakness for Tampa last season so hopefully this new scheme and coaching will be able to fix the issues along with Cappa potentially living up to his potential in his second season.
