Jason Pierre-Paul NFI List?
On Monday July 22nd, the Buccaneers moved QB Nick Fitzgerald to the Non-Football Injury list and he may return any time before the roster cuts to the 53 man roster. Jason Pierre-Paul was injured in a single car crash this offseason and broke his neck which has raised some questions about his future.
Pierre-Paul elected to not undergo surgery and go through rehab and natural body healing to heal his neck injury. Head Coach Bruce Arians has stated that he doesn’t expect Jason Pierre-Paul back until at least October and that’s just an estimate. A broken neck can take anywhere from three to six months to heal with the correct treatment.
Jason Pierre-Paul won’t be playing to begin the 2019 season which means that at anytime the Buccaneers can add him to the Non-Football Injury list and he won’t count against the 53 man roster at that time. It’d be a smart decision to move Pierre-Paul to the NFI list for the first six games of the season so his roster spot can go to a healthy body who can contribute to the team. If Jason Pierre-Paul becomes healthy and gets cleared, then they would have three weeks to decide if the player can begin practicing. If JPP begins practicing and the team feels he’s not healthy enough to play, he’ll be added to the Injured Reserve list and be out for the season.
