Why the Idea of Duke Johnson or Melvin Gordon to Tampa is Ridiculous

Published by Cory Hays on

The talks of either Melvin Gordon or Duke Johnson coming to Tampa should not be happening. Duke Johnson and Melvin Gordon are both solid RBs for their current teams but the issue with both men will be money. Head Coach Bruce Arians has stated that he will not overpay for the RB position so this should end the talk of Johnson or Gordon to Tampa.

Duke Johnson is going into his 5th season in the NFL having made $8,319,592 in his 4 seasons so far in Cleveland. Heading into the 2019 season, Johnson is guaranteed $2.3M in salary and the next 3 seasons will make $11,550,000. While Johnson is a solid dual threat RB, the Bucs will not want to pay for this contract as they have other big decisions to make around the team.

Melvin Gordon is currently holding out as he wants the Chargers to pay him more than what he is supposed to make this upcoming season. Gordon is slated to make $5,605,000 this season and feels that his production on the field should be equivalent to more. Melvin Gordon has only rushed for over 1,000 yards once in his four NFL seasons but feels that due to his workload he deserves better money. As previously stated, the Buccaneers and Bruce Arians will not overpay for a RB. Arians and company believe that the tandem of Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones will produce this upcoming season and do not need any other RBs.

What do Bucs fans think? Should the Bucs take a shot at Johnson or Gordon?
