Who Will Be This Year’s Most Impactful Buccaneers Player?
After the NFL handed a 4 game suspension to CB Ryan Smith, the Bucs have a veteran hole to fill in their secondary and on special teams. Will the Bucs sign another player to fill this spot? It’s a possibility but it more than likely won’t happen. The Bucs will build from within with the guys that Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles chose for their Defense.
The most impactful player on the 2019 Buccaneers team will be a rookie. A rookie that was believed by many to be the most underrated safety in the draft. This player is Mike Edwards. Edwards is a player while at Kentucky was always around the ball. He has the see ball find ball mentality and that’s what Arians and Bowles liked about him. At Kentucky, Edwards had 190 career tackles, 10 INTs, and 23 pass deflections.
Edwards ran a 4.56 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine so his speed will be a huge factor in contributing to the success of a newly branded Buccaneers Defense. Mike Edwards is undersized at 5 foot 10 but his aggressiveness and ability to be physical makes up for it. Arians and Bowles will probably use Edwards in a role where he is closer to the line of scrimmage along with Deone Bucannon for blitzing packages. Overall, Buccaneers fans are in for a treat with Edwards coming into his rookie season.
