Former UF Player Joiner Arrested for Murder
Over last weekend, we had some sad news to report in former Florida Gators star safety Tony Joiner placed under arrest and charged with second-degree murder of his late wife Heyzel Obando.
She was found in her apartment dead on February 14, 2016, and her death was ruled a homicide two months later during a long investigation process and without a suspect in the case. This was until the arrest of Mr. Joiner. Joiner had a checkered past in his life being arrested twice in the past for various domestic violence issues for abusing his former ex-wife.
Additionally, Joiner played at UF from 2004-2007 with former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez who was convicted in the murder of a former friend in June of 2013. Hernandez eventually ended his life back in 2017 in prison. This is a sad story for a former college football national champion and player under former Gators coach Urban Meyer. Meyer’s time at UF included two national championships but more than two dozen arrests and now a second former player charged with murder. This is something that doesn’t look well for Coach Meyer and his coaching career.
