Going into the last few voluntary workouts and OTA’s, Bucs Head Coach Bruce Arians gave his new rookies lots of praise and high remarks. During the team’s rookie minicamp, Arians and his staff gave the rookies a lot to review and learn during the time provided.
One of the rookies that Coach Arians and DB coach Kevin Ross pointed out was CB Sean Murphy-Bunting,the team’s 2nd round pick in this years NFL draft. Murphy-Bunting spoke on being called at roughly 6 am in the morning and Coach Ross quizzing him already on different plays and schemes in the playbook. Murphy-Bunting was talking to various reports saying, “He woke me up early. Had to get my brain going. That’s kind of how it was for, like, five days straight.” This is telling me right there that this team is getting a different style of coaching compared to former Head Coach Dirk Koetter’s style of coaching.
With Arians approach of being a teacher, his style is to keep these young men focused and always looking to fine tune their game and style of play. Arians mentioned, “We threw a lot at these guys, and these guys coming out of college have so much to learn because so many of them offensively have never been in a huddle and that’s the new wave. That’s how we have to coach now. It’s totally different from 10 years ago, but we’re ready for it.” This is Something this Bucs team sorely missed here and you can tell with this new approach from the new coaching staff these rookies should be ready to be called upon when their number is called.
