Published by Kevin Sloan on

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently introduced there newest member of the teams ring of honor recipient in Defensive Back Ronde Barber, it was refreshing to see one of the most valuable members of that great Buccaneers Defense get their time to shine in the team’s Ring of Honor which is another step to Ronde’s inevitable enshrinement into Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. Growing up Ronde aka Jamael Orondé in the streets of Roanoke, VA along with his twin brother Tiki, who also had a successful NFL career with the New York Giants, Ronde had to endure living in a single parent household after his mother Geraldine was divorced from their father James Barber at a very young age. He grew up as a talented athlete in football wrestling, and track in high school.

Ronde’s hard work paid off into an athletic scholarship from the University of Virginia. Barber excelled during his time at UVA where he earned his bachelor’s in commerce according to from the UVA student athletics website. After his junior season at UVA, he declared himself for the NFL Draft and was drafted in the third round by the Buccaneers with the 66th overall pick and he and Tiki became the fourth set of twins that were selected in the same draft in NFL history.

One of Barber’s best seasons was his career-defining season with a Super Bowl title was the 2002-2003 season with him have 79 tackles, 3 sacks, 17 passes deflected, and 2 two interceptions for nine yards. This season had the one most important moment in Buccaneers history with him picking off Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb with a 92 yard pick six to close out the NFC championship game which was the Eagles final game at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.

After Barber’s final season in 2012, he decided to join Fox Sports as a color analyst and he is heard during the team pre-season and some of the games during the season. For one of the greats who ever wore pewter and red congrats Ronde and see you in Canton very soon.
