“That Decision Is Above My Pay Grade”

Gerald McCoy’s fate in Tampa may be coming to an end. Days ago, Todd Bowles said, “No, I haven’t talked to [Gerald McCoy], and right now he’s on our team.” Bowles then went on to say, “Everything will be decided by Jason [Licht] and Bruce [Arians].” It is undetermined what will happen with the former all-pro defensive tackle. No official statement has been made by anyone. Although, when Arians was asked about McCoy not attending voluntary off-season workouts, he said, “We have open arms. If he wants to be here at practice, that’s great. He’s under contract and part of the team. That’s a player’s decision.” Both the team’s head coach and general manager have kept it pretty low-key despite numerous rumors the Buccaneers’ were shopping McCoy.
McCoy just recently went on a rant on his Instagram. “Cinco de Mayo. Everybody out, probably getting ready to drink, probably drinking right now. No matter. You want to question me? See what I do on Cinco de Mayo. I work. I work.” he then panned the camera to the background to his children, “And I’ve got my kids with me. How many people doing that? All-Pro on and off the field. Want to question me? ‘Is he going to be ready? Does he love football?’ What? Y’all crazy. Lost y’all mind. I work. Don’t you ever question me.” McCoy heard the criticism. Last two years he’s tallied up a total of 12 sacks. McCoy is 31 years old and is owed $13 million in 2019 (none is guaranteed).
