Steelers To Use Transitional Tag On Le’Veon Bell?
Something that may come as good news to Bucs fans, well the ones that want Le’Veon Bell in Tampa anyway, is that the Steelers may consider using the transition tag on Bell. A transitional tag is different than a franchise tag as it allows a player to actively negotiate with other teams during the season under the premise that he is going to be eventually traded. The tag makes an unrestricted free agent a restricted free agent which allows the Steelers to match any offer given to Bell.
The average salary for a player that is transition tagged is around $9.5 million up to $14.5 million a season which is a far cry from the over $17 million Bell demanded per season. The chances this actually happens is 50/50. The Steelers might do well and see Bell walk and also receive a compensatory pick, most likely a 3rd rounder.
