The University of Auburn Gets their Cadillac Back.

Published by Jay Bucs on

Auburn University has a reunion of sorts. Former star running back and Buccaneer’s star running back, Carnell Williams has returned to his alma mater. The reunion isn’t just a social one, but a business one.

Auburn’s Cadillac has been returned home, but did you know that at first, Carnell Williams didn’t even like the nickname given to him in high school?

While digging around, I found an article by AL.com entitled: The story behind Auburn legend Carnell Williams’ famous nickname. The article contained a statement made by the former superstar pertaining to his original dislike of the nickname.

“Remember, this was back in the 1990s before Cadillac came out with all these sporty cars,” Williams said, “and when I thought of a Cadillac, all I thought of was big, smooth, and slow. I didn’t like it at all.

“I’d go to the mall on Saturdays, (in high school) and people would call me, ‘Cadillac,’ and I’d be like, ‘Naw, I’m more like a Ferrari. I’m fast.’ “

Cadillac returns to his former university as the running back’s coach. If there is one thing Cadillac knows, it’s running the football.

As an Auburn player, he is easily one of the most memorial running back in the last two decades. He had multiple 1,000+ yard rushing season at Auburn and was an All-American selection in 2004.

Williams currently owns the all-time rushing TD (45) record at Auburn edging out another legend, Bo Jackson (43), and the most single-game rushing TDs (6). He also is tied for 4th with Bo Jackson with the all-time most single-season rushing TDs (17).

Williams will definitely be an asset to Auburn’s running game and should be quite successful as a coach.
