Injuries Helped Lead To Another Dismal Season
Another Bucs season is in the books, and it was another disaster of a season. Coach Dirk Koetter has taken the brunt of the blame, but injuries played a part as well. Injuries to key players decimated what was already a thin core of depth on defense.
Key players like Justin Evans, OJ Howard, Vernon Hargreaves, and Rookie Vita Vea all missed significant time due to injury, in Hargreaves case he missed all but one game this season, and Kendell Beckwith missed it all.
The one that hurt the most was the injury to MLB Kwon Alexander, the captain of the Buccaneers defense.
Yes, the coaching was terrible, but the lack of any kind of depth on defense was pathetic. Strength and conditioning coaches are at fault as well and they can be blamed for a multitude of injuries over the past few seasons.
This offseason GM Jason Licht has a very important job to do, and that is to add players that can step in and play if another key player goes down next year.
