The Future of Kwon Alexander and Kendell Beckwith
The Buccaneers defense lost a lot of talent to injuries in 2018. Arguably the two most painful losses were linebackers, Kwon Alexander and Kendell Beckwith.
Beckwith suffered an injury to his ankle in a car wreck during the preseason and Kwon had a season-ending ACL tear in week seven against Cleveland.
Beckwith was projected to return from his injury early in the regular season, but barely made it a week at practice before he was placed back on IR. Since then, there’s been no real report on his condition, which has generated some concerns about his return.
Kwon Alexander, from reports, however, is looking strong and seems to be recovering well.
But, what about their futures?
Beckwith’s injury was obviously more severe than previously reported and required more time to heal, but with two more years left on his rookie contract, he’ll be a crucial part of the linebacker core if he comes back healthy.
Kwon Alexander is a bit of a gray area. Ian Rapoport reported before his ACL tear that talks between Licht and Alexander’s agent were already underway, but he would not be receiving premium payment. Shortly after that, he suffered a season-ending knee injury. Both of those things make his future with the Buccaneers highly questionable. Hopefully, terms are reached that are satisfying to both parties, and both linebackers come back strong.
Only time will tell.
