Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Coaches that Should be Pursued

Published by on

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Baltimore Ravens 20-12 Sunday in Baltimore and were officially eliminated from the NFC playoffs. The Bucs also fell to 5-9 and reached their sixth losing season in seven years, and we believe that Tampa has the potential to compete with the talent they have.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did get off to a good 2-0 start with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the control, with great wins over their division rival the New Orleans Saints in the Super Dome, and upsetting the defending World Champions Philadelphia Eagles. The Bucs still had a big problem on the defensive side of the ball and it wasn’t long until defensive coordinator Mike Smith was fired and linebackers coach Mark Duffner would take over as defensive coordinator, but the defense is still a major problem.

There are only two more games left on the schedule with a trip this week to Jerry World and the Bucs come home to close out the season against their most heated rival the Atlanta Falcons. Personally, as a fan, I’m hoping we play for pride and win the next two, but take it one game at a time. I have been hearing that the Glazers have been starting the coaching search so I’ll list my candidates that the Bucs should pursue.

Coaching Candidates

Josh McDaniels– The New England Patriots offensive coordinator who had the Colts job for a short while last January, but I guess we all know that he will succeed Belichick. Personally, I still think he’s still worth pursuing.

Dan Campbell– The assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the Saints. He may be an assistant for a rival team, but I think he is worth pursuing. I remember he was 5-7 as an interim for the Miami Dolphins back in 2015 when they fired Philbin and he showed that he could lead a team someday.

Mike McCarthy– He has a Super Bowl ring remember that, but that was with the help of Aaron Rogers and recently before he was fired in recent years took a lot of heat from Packers fans. Tampa Bay definitely could definitely use a Super Bowl-winning coach.

John Harbaugh– Yet again another coach with a Super Bowl ring and he was on the opposite sideline yesterday, but one thing that worries me about Harbaugh though is that he’s not an expert on offense or defense and the Bucs have been horrid on defense the past two seasons. Do I want somebody that has a background on offense or defense if you get what I’m saying?

Kris Richard– The longtime Seattle Seahawks assistant and onetime defensive coordinator for the Seahawks. He’s currently the defensive backs and passing game coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. Personally, I think if you want a coach that specializes in defense, this is our guy.

Who would I hire personally? Dan Campbell, because that’s what Tampa Bay needs in a coach when you think about bringing passion and toughness to Tampa Bay that this team has been lacking since the Tony Dungy years.

Defensive route? Kris Richard. As I said, with the terrible defensive play recently, Richard would be the guy to hire.
