Bucs vs Falcons Week 6 Instant Reaction

Published by Cory Hays on

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traveled to Atlanta to face a divisional rival in a big matchup. The Falcons came into the game 1-4 and Bucs came into the game 2-2. Lets get started.

Jameis Winston started his first game of the season and came out like a man on a mission. Winston drove the Offense down the field on the first drive and scored a TD. He went 30/41 for 395 yards, 4 TDs, and 2 INTS. The 2 INTs were bad INTs but he got better as the game went on. Winston will build on this game going home next week against Cleveland.

Matt Ryan always seems to tear the Buccaneers Defense apart.  Ryan went 31/41 for 354 yards. 3 TDs, and 0 INTs. Ryan seemed to find the holes in the Bucs Defense and deliver the ball where it needed to be throughout the game.

Peyton Barber had his best game of the 2018 season. Barber rushed 13 times for 82 yards. Barber was also involved in the passing game with 4 catches for 24 yards and 1 TD. Ronald Jones rushed 1 time for 3 yards. DeSean Jackson rushed 1 time for 7 yards. Jameis Winston got in on the action with 5 rushes for 31 yards.

The Falcons running game didn’t seem to have that big of an impact in this game. Tevin Coleman rushed 10 times for 35 yards. Ito Smith rushed 11 times for 22 yards and 1 TD. Matt Ryan even had a rush for 13 yards in the 4th quarter.

Adam Humphries led all Bucs pass catchers with 3 catches for 82 yards. DeSean Jackson had 4 catches for 77 yards. OJ Howard played on a sprained MCL and had 4 catches for 62 yards and 1 TD. Mike Evans became the all-time franchise leading receiver in this game with 4 catches for 58 yards. Chris Godwin had 6 catches for 56 yards and 1 TD. Ronald Jones had 3 catches for 16 yards. Cam Brate had 1 catch for 15 yards and 1 TD.

Julio Jones always seems to have a great receiving game against Tampa Bay. Jones had 10 catches for 143 yards. Jones still does not have a TD this season. Austin Hooper had 9 catches for 71 yards and 1 TD. Calvin Ridley had 3 catches for 47 yards. Mo Sanu had 2 catches for 46 yards and 1 TD. Justin Hardy had 3 catches for 33 yards. Tevin Coleman had 1 catch for 6 yards and 1 TD.

Tampa Bay’s Offensive Line was average in this game. The Offensive Line allowed 2 sacks and 4 QB hits in this game. Caleb Benenoch seems to be the biggest question mark on the Offensive Line.

Atlanta’s Offensive Line kept the Buccaneers Defense in check for the most part. The Falcons allowed 1 sack in this game

The Buccaneers Defensive Line didn’t seem to pressure Matt Ryan much this game. When they did, they got the only sack of the game. Jason Pierre-Paul now has 5 sacks on the season and had 3 tackles including 3 solo. Vinny Curry had 3 tackles including 3 solo. Beau Allen returned and had 1 tackles including 1 solo. Carl Nassib had 1 tackle including 1 solo and was a big part in Pierre-Paul getting his 5th sack. Vita Vea recorded 1 tackle including 1 solo.

The Falcons Defensive Line wasn’t really showing up on the stat sheet. Terrell McClain had 3 tackles including 2 solo. Jack Crawford had 2 tackles including 1 solo and 1 sack. Deadrin Senat had 2 tackles including 1 solo. Vic Beasley Jr and Takk McKinley did not record a tackle.

The Buccaneers Linebackers had some great days tackling wise. Kwon Alexander led all tacklers with 11 tackles including 10 solo and 2 tackles for loss. Lavonte David had 6 tackles including 6 solo and 1 tackle for loss. Adarius Taylor got in on the action with 2 tackles including 2 solo.

The Falcons Linebackers had a day. Foye Oluokun had 10 tackles including 7 solo. De’Vondre Campbell had 5 tackles including 2 solo. Duke Riley had 4 tackles including 3 solo and 1 pass deflection. Bruce Carter had 3 tackles including 3 solo. Brooks Reed had 1 tackle which was a sack.

The Buccaneers Defensive Backs were a little banged up as Carlton Davis was out for this game. Ryan Smith stepped in for Davis. Smith finished 6 tackles including 6 solo. Jordan Whitehead returned and had 6 tackles including 4 solo. Brent Grimes  had 5 tackles including 5 solo. Justin Evans had 4 tackles including 4 solo and 1 tackle for loss. MJ Stewart had 2 tackles including 2 solo and 1 tackle for loss. The DBs need to adjust their scheme as they continue to leave open zones for receivers.

The Falcons Defensive Backs caught 2 INTs off of Jameis Winston. Brian Poole and Damontae Kazee each had 1. Brian Poole finished with 6 tackles including 5 solo and 2 pass deflections. Damontae Kazee had 5 tackles including 4 solo and 1 pass deflection. Jordan Richards had 5 tackles including 2 solo. Kemal Ishmael had 4 tackles including 4 solo. Desmond Trufant had 3 tackles including 3 solo. Robert Alford had 2 tackles including 2 solo.

The Buccaneers Special Teams seemed to be a little off this game. Chandler Catanzaro missed his 1st extra point. Catanzaro went 1/1 on Field Goals and 2/3 on extra points. The missed extra point loomed large in this game. Brian Anger punted 2 times for 81 yards with an average of 40.5 yards. DeSean Jackson returned 1 punt for 9 yards and Adam Humphries returned 1 punt for 6 yards. Jacquizz Rodgers returned 2 kickoffs for 31 yards and Antony Auclair returned 1 kickoff for 9 yards.

The Falcons Special Teams were on this whole game. Matt Bryant seems to always haunt the Buccaneers and it continued this game. Bryant went 2/2 on Field Goals with his longest being 57 in the 4th quarter and 4/4 on extra points. Matt Bosher punted the ball 4 times for 180 yards with an average of 45 yards. Justin Hardy returned 2 punts for 14 yards. Marvin Hall returned 1 kickoff for 19 yards.

The Buccaneers fell to the Falcons 34-29. Jameis Winston came back out of the gate firing and he didn’t stop throughout the game. The Buccaneers Defense continues to give cushion to the opposing receivers and it continues to backfire against the Bucs. Mercedes Benz Stadium is such an amazing stadium. The Falcons are blessed to play in such a beautiful stadium. The roof was open in this game which may have played a factor in the Falcons win. Gerald McCoy got injured in this game and was seen with a walking boot after the game. Ryan Smith was also injured in this game. We will continue to monitor these injuries throughout the week. Tampa Bay could’ve won this game on the last play of the game but the play wasn’t meant to be. The Buccaneers now sit at 2-3 and head back home to face the 2-3-1 Browns.
