ATB Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2018 Draft Profile: Derrius Guice
There’s only two weeks remaining before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers possibly make the seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
It’s evident that the Buccaneers need to find a running back that can carry the load and take pressure off Franchise Quarterback Jameis Winston. If Saquon Barkley happens to get picked up before the Bucs pick, another prospect that can take the load is Derrius Guice,
In 2016, Guice took over for an injured Leonard Fournette and proved himself to be a very valuable asset to the LSU Tigers offense.
With his hard-running style, exceptional running balance, and his quick speed, lead the SEC in rushing yards with 1,387 yards, along with rushing touchdowns for a running back with fifteen despite only starting six of twelve games played. Not to mention he was an All SEC player.
Guice set a school record against Mike Evans Ala-mater in Texas A&M with 285 yards. In 2017, Guice was injured early on, but still managed to run for 1,251 yards with 11 rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns. To say the less, Derrius Guice should be a starter on any team with his tenacity running the ball and his overall effort level when fighting for extra yards.
What Does Guice Bring to the Buccaneers
Drafting Guice could take the Buccaneers offense to the next level, a level that could include the much-needed help in scoring. The Buccaneers had no issues moving the ball down the field and completing first downs. I believe bringing in Guice could bring the Buccaneers red zone woes to an end.
Creating the play action is a huge game changer for Winston and the Bucs offense. With the absence of a pass catching back in Charles Sims, Guice has proven he can be that third down back and catch the ball in needed situations.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be wise to get an every down back heading into the draft. With the Bucs running back depth looking very slim, Derrius Guice could be that back that keeps defenses honest by creating a gut punching run game that will ultimately create more scoring opportunities for the 2018 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
