2018 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Free Agency Day One Recap

Published by on

Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not stay quite during the first day of Free Agency.

As the 2018 Free Agency dinner bell rang, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came for some Hors d’ Oeuvres. To start the new league year the Bucs went ahead and addressed a big need on the team. Defensive Linemen.

Pen to Paper

The Buccaneers agreed to terms with Defensive Tackle Beau Allen who is coming off a Super Bowl win with the Eagles. The details of the contract was $15 million for three years. Beau does not possess the sack numbers most Buccaneers fan want, but he does bring some much needed run stopping ability that Tampa missed out on in 2017.

The other Defensive Lineman the Bucs signed was Defensive End Mitch Unrein coming from the Chicago Bears. Again, as mentioned with Allen, Unrein doesn’t have the flashy stats that a lot of Buccaneers fans want. He’s been said to be an under-rated player coming out of Chi-Town. His deal was also for three years but with $10.5 million with only $4 million of that being guaranteed.

The surprise signing, for me anyways, was the signing of New York Football Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro. Catanzaro did not miss a single extra point in 2017 and was near perfect from 40 yards in. His contract was also for three years $9.75 million, with only $3.25 million guaranteed.

The final signing of the day for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was the re-signing of Safety Keith Tandy. Tandy is a very smart player and had some very big flashes in 2016. 2017 was a different story though. Tandy does contribute a lot to the special teams, so this move makes a bit more sense to me.

Visitors Welcomed

If those signing weren’t your cup of tea the Buccaneers also had an official visit with Center Ryan Jensen from the Ravens. This is a move I’d love to see happen, but we’ll have to wait to find out what went down yesterday at One Buc place.

The Buccaneers also held a private workout with LSU Running Back Derrius Guice.

There’s your recap for day one of the NFL 2018 Free Agency for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stay tuned into All Things Buccaneers each day for recaps of prior day’s findings.
